Can you restore lost sound on VHS tape?

My grandfather was on the USS Saratoga and was once interviewed about his experience during Pearl Harbor. My father went to play the tape a while back and discovered that although the picture quality is great, the sound no longer plays. Is there any way to restore it?

Try playing it on a different player because the tracking can sometimes vary on other machines. the recording on tapes is magnetic, so if it was stored near any speakers or magnets you may have lost your sound. Also check that the tape is not damaged from the player it was last viewed, do this by pushing the small tab on the side of the casette at the same time lifting the flap exposing the tape. Check for a constant crease or folding on the edge of the tape. Dont forget to check system compatability between vcr and tv, pal ntsc secam etc. With the info you have given me I hope this was useful to you.
