Push button Cistern float valve?

Hello, I have a push button toilet. The water is constantly filling but not yet over flowing. I have looked on the internet and it possibly could be water inlet valve. How can I replace please any advice would be greatly appreciatedI also cant see what make or branding on this sorry.I am trying to fix myself so nothing to technical or specialist terminology as my skills are just basic diy.

Hello again, thank you for the quick response. I have just checked the valve and theres nothing to adjust it.But the top came off in my hand and water squirted out and I managed to get the top back on and now it seems to have stopped dripping.Beginners luck or may be its just lulling me into a false sense and will go hay wire in awhile. Kind regards Dee

If the waster is constantly filling the cistern as you say then it must be overflowing - either into the WC pan or outside.

The inlet valve suffers from two problems - either the "rubber" seal perishes inside the valve and should be replaced or - more usually - the inlet valve merely needs to be adjusted. This can be achieved either by lowering the float into the water (to shut the valve off sooner) or most often by turning the little nylon adjusting screw in towards the valve - and doing up the locknut - It's a rare thing to need to replace the whole inlet valve assembly.

Good luck...
