My shredder was in use, did not overheat, and did not have a full basket. It just stopped working. I have unplugged, picked it up, emptied all shredded materials from basket and blades and it still won't work. What is wrong with it and how can I fix it?

I have an XRX-8X too. Here are a few things that can go wrong.
Obviously, where you plug the shredder into outlet, the power circuit is good?
I lent mine to a 'friend' who probably picked it up by the power cord to lift it off the basket. It did not work when he returned it. I disassembled it and had to fix the broken power cord connection inside the shredder assembly. You might try wiggling the power cord where it enters the shredder assembly. If it works briefly then you'll need to have the power cord repaired.
Also, you know about the little interface switch? There is that notch in the rim of the basket. That is where the safety interface switch must set for power to run the shredder. Be sure that switch is setting properly in the notch.
If the shredder sets in a humid or damp environment that can cause problems with any electrical device to the point of failure due to corrosion.
