SONY 32" (only 6 yrs old) picture only 2 inches tall now?

My son was watching TV and he heard a pop or snap and then the picture went to being 2 inches tall. You can still see a picture it's just not normal. IS this the tube or the power supply? I talked with someone who guessed the power supply. Is it worth replacing and can I do it myself? Where can I by a new/used one? ebay?

Thanks for any input

Thanks Sparky!
I had someone at work look at it and they said they got a service code #5 from the screen. Does this help narrow the problem anymore?
Thanks for your help again.

Problem is more likely in the vertical deflection output stage and likely a capacitor that has failed or the itegrated circuit in this stage but at a guess I would say a capacitor would be more likely and if correct a repair would normally be economically viable providing the set normally produces a good picture. Put in for an estimate.
