Do I fix or replace my 14 year old Hoover top-loading machine?

I have a Hoover Commodore 792 top-loading washing machine.
Lately it has been filling up and flooding the laundry - it doesn't seem to recognise when it is full of water. My husband cleaned it all and partially fixed that problem, but now it is filling with water and then suddenly starts to empty while still trying to fill, so water is going straight through it. It still spins and empties okay.
Is this fixable or do I get a new machine? This one is 14 years old.

At 14 years it's getting on a bit. time to replace as i think certain parts will be obselete. Water draining while filling is a sign flood protection is working.
