Fixing Leaking Mixer Tap?

How do I get inside the workings of a mixer tab, in order to view the control valve?
Tony Dawson, January 2010
These photos show a very unusual internal fault with a kitchen mixer tap. If the problem is just external leaks from around the swivel joint it is often just a matter of new O rings. Try pasting this link:

Often repairs can be undertaken without removing the tap from the sink unit.

Depending on the problem I can most likely load some photos - send me an email via SeeRed.co.uk home page. These taps can not only leak externally they can leak internally - high pressure cold into low pressure hot which eventually leads to overflow from the storage cistern in the roof!! Took me a while to figure that one.
