Cant install new CD Drive?

I was given a second hand computer (OS: XP pro) that only had a CD-drive. I took it out and put in a LG CD-burner from my old computer (which also was XP pro in which it worked fine). The problem is that the new computer doesn't recognise it and nothing appears in my computer. On start up it comes up "secondary hard disk drive 0 not found". If you press F2 it takes you into the set-up utility where the "secondary drive 0 says unknown device".
All the internal leads are OK and new drive dose open and close.
If you could help me it would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Make sure the jumpers on the back of the drive are set the same way that the old drive was. Probably as master.

Adjacent to the 40-pin EIDE connector there will probably be a block of 6 pins (3 pairs) with labels Master, Slave and Cable Select (or M, S & CS). Make sure that the jumper on your new LG CD-Writer is set to the same setting as your previous CD-ROM drive. This may be sufficient, but if not then go into the BIOS of your machine and on the standard setup screen set all IDE channels to Auto. (Make a note of the current settings in case your machine has been set-up with particular settings).

check that the 2nd drive is set to slave position (on rear of drive)
