Potterton Puma 80?

I have a Puma 80 that has recently messed up. Ok to start with my first problem was we would get no hotwater or heating but before that the problem was I couldnt use heating and hotwater at the sametime (normally there is no problem using the central heating and hot water at the same time) pilot light would switch off we called in a boiler repair person who was supposed to fix the problem but instead the problem was not fixed, the repairs person fitted a new circut board but the problem remained the same.

Only this time however the heating comes on but hot water does not. The boiler repairs person came back again to have a look this time he says the part that needs to be put in has been discontinued.

We have had another repair person look at the the boiler and he has said the part needed is available but very difficult to get hold of.

We have had another person look at it and they have tried to fix the problem and havent returned since they attempted to fix the problem.

The first person has advised us that we are better off buying a new boiler.

no heat or no water problems are very common on this boiler, usually due to the wax capsule diverter valve being faulty. the valve tends to stick in one position or the other so either ch or hw wont work. the diverter valve is still available, i fitted one last week. not always that easy to replace so may put off some people who can't be bothered with the hassle. usually best to change the pump at the same time as when one goes the other usually will soon after.
