Caroma Concorde Functional Description?

I have pulled the flushing mechanism from my older Caroma Concorde cistern and replaced the big donut washer with a "Fix-a-Loo" replacement. This seemed to stop the incessant flow of water into the bowl, after it had seated properly. The problem is now the mechanism doesn't seem to fall back into place so the washer can seal. I have pulled it back out to try and get an understanding of how the mechanism works and am having some trouble deciding what component does what.

It has a brown coloured cage that fixes the assy to the cistern and holds the flushing lever as well as another lever that seems to catch a blue coloured "basket" when depressed. The o-ring is attached to a clear plastic stem that lifted up by the flushing button to break the seal and allow the toilet to flush. I wish I could post photos here! What do all these levers and baskets do? Any help appreciated.
