I think this laptop is a CQ series and its a common problem. They have issues with the CPU and motherboard failiing, although sometimes reseating the cable for the keyboard and the touchpad helps resolved the problem. It may also be that the motherboard ahas killed off the touchpad and the keyboard, but this is not likely. If it is a CQ series Compaq laptop, it most likely will be the motherboard and CPU, I think HP have extended the warranty on these laptops so contact them and ask them what they can do. Argue your case
