Hi I had the plip battery spent on my screen after id changed the batteries and retuned the fob, yes do turn ignition on and hold down the lock button, and mine didn't work straight away, u need to wait for half hour, when I tried it again the warning sign had gone, ta for advice, don't have to pay out :)

I had this plip problem and invested on a battery free manual key from my local auto key maker and my problem was solved.i now use my fob key for my central locking and my manual key for ignition.no battery no problem. Rick

Thank you so much for this post. It has saved me a lot of money at the garage as they don't know what it means. I've changed the
Battery and the warning has gone. Thank you

You will need to initialize your remote again :)
you will find the steps in your operation manual, you will need to insert the key in ignition and press on the look bottom and keep pressing until the car locks :)

take care

I change the battery, but the new one have no one effect-the car is not respond to the remote comands, its ignore the new battery. I try with the old one and the remote is working. Somebody can explain this?

constantinus, December 2010
Plip battery is the battery on the remote control of your car. If the battery is going to run out soon, the car gives you a warning "plip battery spent". You need to chamge the battery.

You do not read carfully. Battery was changed, a new battery voltage is O.K. but alarm: PLIP BATTERY SPENT is still dispaing. I've went to Citroen Service with warranty claim. Unfortunetly they are helpless or to stup..., I do not know . I need reset this alarm only. If you be able to, help me please

plip battery means that the battery in your key needs replacing. whatever you do do not take your key/car to the main dealer unless you are rich and/or stupid. i went to romac motor factors 15 the square mickleover derby tel 01332 516062 they replaced the battery for £2.49 yes two pounds and forty nine pence. i bet they'd post you a battery if you don't live locally.

Hallo, I have the same problem. After change remote battery, alarm "plip battery spent" still displaing. Citroen service is helpless, they can not help me. How can I reset this alarm?

Lukasz, March 2010
Check the car handbook before removing the plip battery, you might have to re-synchronise the remote.
If in doubt, it may be better to ask a Citroen dealer.

I learn that "plip" is what the French call the remote unlocking device - it must be sending out a weak signal to the car - the car is telling you to change the battery in the remote (plip).

Vive la plip
