JVC DVD width of picture viewing problem?

When viewing films on my DVD player the picture intermittently switches from the standard wide screen to a wider view, i.e. the depth of the picture gets bigger then flicks back and forward between the two.
Any ideas?
The model is a JVC TH-A35

You need to reset the aspect ratio on your tv from auto to one of the other options, the one you prefer the picture on. Look up in your tv instruction book under aspect ratio.
