Replaced fan but not firing up?

Hiya all,
Our boiler started making a strange noise one morning last week, and eventually stopped working at the weekend. I work for a plumbing company so one of our plumbers diagnosed a faulty fan which he has replaced, however, now the boiler won't fire up, the pilot light lights but that is all, the plumber can't find the reason for this any ideas, thank you.

depends what boiler it is.
may be that the pilot is not rectifying. does it continue to spark even though the pilot is lit?
either that or faulty gas valve.
