After 5 years trouble free washing, I suddenly got lights 1&2 flashing, wouldn't drain, wouldn't cycle - it's New Years Eve 2010 and I'm expecting a housefull in about 4 hours! Tried the boiling water solution (drained out stagnent water with the smallest receptacle I could find, chucked in a kettle full of boiling water and left for 10mins - drain out again and try setting off a cycle - repeat if it doesn't work) This worked on the second kettle-full! Brilliant advice thanks so much!

What a great web site. Cycle wouldn't run and lights 1 and 2 flashing. Des took your advice but didn't use bleach. Siphoned the water out using a plastic tube and poured in boiling water from the kettle. Did it twice and the machine worked straight away.

the lower metal spray arm is scrapping the back of the unit - how do I fix it in the centre? I think the bolt has come loose.

I have lights 2 and 4 flashing, does anyone know what this means?

Sarah, May 2009
I had lights 1 and 2 flashing too. I took out all the filters and used a standard sink plunger on the drain well. You will need two people to do this as you need to block all the water inlets including the upper one which is situated at the back of the upper tray (with your thumb) and the lower distributor arm with your fingers (all six holes with your's and your assistant's fingers). My dishwasher is working fine now.

Had mine for over 2 years and lights 1&2 keep flashing. Waited til it reset and tried to run the cycle again but it kept stopping after 10mins and the lights were flashing again.

So.... me and the wife took both the filter and sub-filter off (this was quite easy), cleaned them both thoroughly, and also drained the excess water out using a turkey baster. Then poured a cap of bleach into the drain and left for 1 hour. Re-fitted the filters, then ran on emtpy cycle....worked a treat

run water through a hose pipe into waste pipe of dishwasher and keep removing water - this then broke up any blockage in filter and worked after about 3 tries

properhelmet, February 2008

u-bend. thanks to this website dishwasher working as before. love this website!!!!

what a fantastic web site

thanks for your help

my idesit dishwasher now running smoothly again

i simply followed the advice as above

however can i add one tip

DONT use the coat hanger to simulate the door catch and then watch to see what happens !!!!

the kids thought it was very funny tho

thanks again

it sure is a drainage problem, it means the pump impellor isny turning, probably a blockage, as pumps usually dont jam for no reason.

Try removing the filter parts and having a poke about down there, i use a length of net curtain wire, about 8 inches long! sometimes doesnt work straight away but keep trying and eventually you will dislodge whatever is stuck and it will pump through the drain hose never to be seen again - perfect!

Jason, July 2007
Can you update what happened please?

I have flashing lights 1 & 2, when I rang service they told me it was a drainage problem. I cleaned the filter & reset by switching on & off at the wall, it ran, but stopped when it tried to drain.

Going to try the 'one way valve' suggestion from another poster.

Will update.
