Belkin F5D7633-4 and Optus net?

HI. Just arrived in Australia with my UK Belkin F5D7633-4 Wireless Router and cannot get it to work with our Optus net internet (Cable with Scientific Atlantic Modem DPC2203C).
The man at Belkin says this is because my router is a modem router and 2 modems cannot talk to each other.
Is there any way round this? can the modem aspect of the router be turned off / bypassed so that I only use the wireless router?

The man at Belkin is correct and there is no way around this.

I am afraid that you will have to buy a new 'cable' router that has an upstream WAN port rather than an ADSL Modem.
