after playing record the carriage moves to the left hand and while just sits there clicking and wont return to the home position ?

My Prestige II was doing the same thing. When the carriage moves to the left hand side, a lever connected to a microswitch should operate to reverse the motor. In my case the microswitch was faulty.
Check also thet the multicore cable connected to the carriage is free and that there are no dry joints on the microswitches. Regards, Dennis
