how can i fix my bike rear brake cable?

Hi,i have an alpinestar mb,the pads for the rear brake are not biting properly. There is too much movement when i first squeeze the brake lever with no connection then when it does start to bite the lever is right back, therefore not enough bite to stop the wheel. The brake lever has Tektro written on it.The brakes are cantilever. The cable housing is very loose.

Try turning the barrel adjuster on the lever (the rotating part where the cable enters the lever) to increase the cable tension. Failing that, undo the nut or bolt securing the cable to the caliper, pull a little more cable through and retighten the nut or bolt.
