Removing paint from brass door handles etc?

Due to sloppiness (on my part) thereis paint on brass door handles.

Any suggestions on how to remove the paint ?

The trouble with brass is that it tarnishes - so they polish it bright and spray it with clear lacquer. If you get paint on the handle you can remove it either mechanically or chemically - trouble now is that in removing the paint you may well remove the lacquer too and the brass may tarnish.

Chrome does not suffer this drawback.

I would wait for the paint to harden off (at least a week) remove the handle from the door and use the back of a kitchen knife to gently flake the paint off. I would not expect a perfect result - but you never know.

Good luck...
