How can I mend a cracked cistern?

The close coupled cistern of my toilet has a crack from the top rim extending down about 7 inches. Can it be repaired to be watertight? It is not in use at the moment.

I mended a cracked cistern three years ago, and it's still fine. I used Evo-Stick 'Weatherproof roof and gutter sealant'. I'm sure there are other makes as well. It's a black bituminous gunge that never completely sets. I dried out the inside of the cistern, then tanked most of the inside with the stuff, to allow for cracks creeping. It's not pretty, but who cares when it's inside, and it works?

Drain it wait until totally dry and fill crack from iside with silicone sealer.

if you are not using it then isolate water supply or tie up float valve, you should be covered by your insurance check it out

In a short answer no. It is best to replace it .If you mend it and it strts to leak while you are out it will flood your house which isnt funny.
