How can I fix my Hotpoint First edition machine?

It doesn't complete the spin cycle or does then takes in water spasmodically. Is it possible to get a new part/parts and repair it myself?

It could be a number of things such as a faulty pressure switch, faulty inlet valve but that would also mean the motor was playing up as well it could be the timer but the thing I would check first is the pressure chamber, see if it is blocked or partially blocked. If you have the Hotpoint WM First Edition then the chamber is on the front of the tub and you would need to remove the front panel to gain access to it. You could try just blowing down the pipe leading from the pressure switch but that is not a cure just a cowboy’s way of doing a quick fix that may last for a week or just one wash.
