Ceiling light not working?

I have checked the incoming voltage to the single wall switch and across earth to live it is 240v, then checked the voltage going to the ceiling rose. In the terminal above the rose the voltage is 240v across live & earth but only 180v across live & neutral when the switch is on. Can you help?

Get in someone who knows what they are doing, before you qualify for a Darwin Award (www.darwinawards.com)

Test neutral - earth
then try the same at a different rose which works ok and see what you get.

Contact an electrician - there's a wiring fault (faults) somewhere on the lighting circuit. A potential of 180V suggests that you've lost 50 to 60V somewhere i.e. The Black (or Blue) Wire you call a neutral is not a neutral - it's carrying a voltage.

240V divided by 4 is 60V - I suspect 4 lamps wired in series - which is bizarre. I think that you may have been wiring several lights and have made basic errors.

Take care...
