how do i get my toilet to flush?

i have a push button flush system that has just stopped so the toilet will not flush what has gone wrong?

remove the lid and look under it the wire from the button might of come of or if its not got a wire and it pushes on to the top of the syphon then maby the plastic bar has snaped of without looking thats all i can surjest . . . sorry about my spelling not one of my strong points . . .
