The same has happened to my Phototainer. On my unit, the problem has been caused by a broken cable (flexible film cable) which connects the screen to the main unit. Presumably, flexing this cable as the screen is raised and lowered has caused the failure?
This short cable does look replaceable... if anywhere sells this type of spare part. (I am still looking for a source.)
