how can I fix system error e100 for my canon ir 1018?

After fitting in a new drum copier not working, instead giving answer "system error e100". this is for canon copier ir 1018. How do I fix the system error e100?

The drum unit has a small peg at the rear. this peg opens a shutter that cuts off the laser while the drum is out. I suspect the peg has broken off the new drum. Check it with the old one. You may be able to glue something on to fix it.
