GU10 Bulb Replacement?

My contractor installed mini-spotlight/recessed fixtures in our kitchen a few years ago. The bulbs need replacing and I can't get the old GU10 bulb out of the fixtures. The bulbs DO NOT fit through the opening in the fixture and I can't figure out how to remove the ring that holds the bulb in place with the little clip (it rotates 360 deg. but no release point noted....if I could remove that, the bulb could be removed from the fixture and the new bulbs could be installed. I've read some comments online which suggest breaking the bulbs, which I would love to do, however, without removing the inner ring, the new bulbs won't fit through the opening either. I'm out of contact with the contractor and I can't find the name of the fixture manufacturer. Any feedback is appreciated!

pull straight down, there is no release point, the clips just hold it in place. Stick a fingernail between the outside of the bezel and the ceiling and work it down a little until you can pull it off.
