The gearbox is in fail safe. The 's' lamp should be flashing. This is a very reliable unit and you would be unlucky to have a major fault. First check to see if reverse lights work, replace fuse if not. Check all other fuses and replace if required. If there is still a problem get codes read. It still may be simple, bad earth, temp sensor, speed sensor, range switch. More obscure, an alternator fault. or non genuine spark plugs. These upset the computer.
