i switch my machine on and select the program but when i press start the word "test" comes up on the display, the machine then does 2 very short cycles lasting only seconds then stops. i'm wondering whether i have accidently pressed something or do i have an electrical failure of some sort

press and hold the power and start button together until you see d off in the display then it should be ok.
