why is smoke coming from my bonnet on my car?

I have just seen smoke coming from the bonnet on car and it is white but smells strong i have recently topped up the coolant and the oil is fine so dont know what the problem is

Thanks, i have lifted the bonnet and cant see where it is coming from other than from the left of the engine if it is overheating will it cause it to smoke?

Well it won't be coming from the bonnet - from the engine compartment perhaps but not from the bonnet.

The exhaust system deals with the normal fumes so the smoke you see willl either come a leak in the exhaust system of from the burning of a spilled or leaking liquid or from a burning overheated wire or other component.

You really need to lift the bonnet and look to see the source of it.
