oil burner smokes on startup?

My oil burner a Beckett model AFG seems to like puffing a cloud of smoke almost every time it fires up. I've replaced the nozzle, and the ignitors with brand new ones, and set them according to the proper gauge. I've also made several adjustments to the air flow i.e. a little more then a little less. What could be the problem and what else could I try? Please help!

I had a similar problem, and found the burner screen filthy. Cleaning it fixed the problem, but remember to bleed the line thoroughly and be prepared to restart several times before the burner runs smoothly again. If your burner latches up after 3 failures, like mine, the instructions for unlatching are on the botton of the box with the red button. (You have to loosen 2 screws to access it.)
Thanks for the helpful advice.

If it has a Sundstrand or Sundtech A2VA 7116 pump remove the 4 cover bolts remove the screen and clean it,if the gasket is not torn I use it over. The gasket is cheap to buy. Good Luck
