Wiring issues with new light fitting?

Hi all, I've just put a new light fitting up to replace the old single light with shade. New one is a B&Q thing with 4 spots.

Problem is, the old rose was knackered & i stupidly didnt make a diagram when i took it down.

Now i've wired it up, and the switch isnt doing anything, so i've made a mistake somewhere.

I have, from the main power...

3 black wires
3 green wires
3 red wires

On the light fitting a 4 block connector, with...

empty
black
green
red

I understand i need it to be switched, so one of the black wires goes to the empty, but what goes to the other side of the empty to create the loop?

Thanks,

Mark.

Hi, sorry to resurrect this thread, but i am looking to solve the same problem and dont quite get it from the reply above!

i have 3 cables coming out of the ceiling, each with 3 wires. i have taken the ceiling rose off so it is just wires.

my new B&Q fitting is a 4 block connector.

i understand that the 3 earths all go together, but what about the other 5 exactly?

these are:
1 switched live
2 neutral
3 live

please can someone tell me exactly which terminals these go in and out of?

thanks

The three red wires connect to one another and to nothing else. i.e. they do not connect to the light.

Two of the black wires connect together.

The third black wire is Switched Live - from the switch - to turn the light on and off.

You connect the lamp across the black wires - the Brown Wire of the lamp(s) to the single black (Switched Live) and the Blue wire to the double blacks (Neutral).

Your four terminals are
Permanent Live (no lamp connection)
Switched Live (lamp connection)
Neutral (lamp connection)
Earth (connection to everything that requires an earth)

Take care...
