Drive belt burning through the top cover?

Hi. My Wife's Kenwood A901 was giving off a burning smell which I have discovered is the toothed drive belt burning its way through the top plastic cover, as it is riding high on both cog wheels. Should there be something on top of the belt on the small cog to prevent the belt from moving up, or is something else wrong?

There is nothing holding the belt down.
Make sure the parts are not loose and secured properly.
On my A901, I found the casing cracked causing the probs.

I have a white plastic washer that is 1.5mm thick 15mm hole and 22mm external that fits on the top of the cog quite tightly.

though in my general experience (not with mixers) belts ride up when the shafts are at the wrong angles, check your bearings
