Hi Mike. The radio problem actually occurred a long time ago. It only showed up now because the battery had to be disconnected. Think of it as a computer with a problem in the boot up sequence. It will work fine until you turn it off and have to restart it.

This is one of the few models that can not be repaired except by sending it to one of the authorized repair centers. I have the equipment to replace the microprocessor that causes the problem, but then the software must be "burned in". They will never sell me the equipment to do that.

This applies to the cassette player with three lighted tone controls, model # 56038518, the cd player, also with three tone controls and the model number ending in "67", as well as a few models with two non-lighted tone controls. For the cassette player, there is a different model, built for Chrysler by Mitsubishi that is a direct, very high quality replacement. It has the same tone controls, same mounting brackets, and will run the same remote cd changer if you have one. It is in very high demand by used car dealers to replace their non-functioning radios. They have a near 100 percent failure rate. It's just a matter of time. The Mitsubishi radio only has one extra switch for "scan".

For the cd player version, Mitsubishi builds a very nice cd / cassette combo radio that is a direct replacement. Both replacement radios look the same as the models they're replacing.
