If you pull off the plastic stoppers at the end of the guide rails you can then slide the top basket out and then slide it back in but this time on the bottom set of wheels (which raises the basket and allows more space for dinner plates!) - then put the stoppers back on to the rails. Only draw back is that stemmed or tall glasses then need to go in top basket at an angle - they still wash OK though.
