Sounds like the programmer is faulty.
Sometimes you can spray it with switch cleaner.(not WD40!)
It means going inside the machine...so best left to a suitable repair person.

if you have a heavy item in such as a bath mat or a single heavy fleece then may be it will not balance and spin.it is the machine stopping the spin because it is to unbalanced.try a normal full load and see if it spins ok.also check the filter for blockages.if it still fails to spin it could be a board issue?.
