How to remove firmly stuck vinyl floor tiles?

I'm trying to remove vinyl floor tiles which look as if they've been down for a good many years. Have tried lifting them but they just snap off in small pieces. This method is going to take for ever & I don't want to lay new flooring over old. Does anyone know of an easier/quicker method please?

try using a steamer to soften glue or a hair dryer

Depending on the type of glue you can sometimes heat the tiles and scrape of or you can hire a tile remover.

use a shovel and slide it under them
