How do I fix my intellifax 1840c?

It says "unable to clean" and tells me to consult the user's guide for troubleshooting. I don't have the guide. I opened it and wiped everything down, then changed the one ink cartridge that was almost empty. That didn't work and I can't turn it off with the on/off button to reset it.
