How to open a UPVC Window with a broken handle/mechanism?

Hi,

I have recently moved into a house where two of the windows do no open. The handles operate fine (from horizontal to vertical), but the mechanism does not appear to work, when I remove the handle, the metal square inside the window frame does turn, but you can feel the mechanism does not. As I can't open the window I can't drop the whole thing out. If I take the glass open, will this give me access to the locking mechanism? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Jamie,

I've got/had the same problem, the answer is yes and no!. Hopefully you will have another window of the same size fitted to your house. Open that window and locate the lock stops on the frame. Now remove the beading and glass from the problem window and drill a hole in the area of the lock stop. this will give access to the inner area of the window and you must now drill again which will strike the mechanism, with luck and a small screw driver you should be able to move the bolt back and open the window. This worked for me and hope you have the same result. Good Luck.
