How do I remove a broken agitator hub ( GE WPSB9080B0WW)?

The agitator hub on my GE WPSB9080B0W washer is cracked. I removed the agitator and the large nut that holds the hub. I also removed the inner tub. The remaining piece of the hub is stuck on the shaft. I do not want to break anything. Is it OK to cut it off.
