inside the wharfedale recorder is the same ide cable connectors as the ones inside computers
disconnet the hard drive from the dvd recorder the plug into computer to check if it works or take a dvd recorder for a computer and connect it up to your dvd recorder and see if it works
as i took the top of mine which was a second hand one and it has 160gb hdd in it but i put my 250gb hdd in it and it work a treat
