how do I reset my sewing machine?

I am having trouble getting the tension and bobbin on my SINGER PROFESSIONAL DSX /FUTURA 4000N. I have tried everything to solve the problem of thread bunching and looping and missing stitches. I assume that there must be a setting that the machine is tested with in factory, and if I could go back to square one and re-set the ideal tensions, I might have better luck. Thanks.

Hello Dee,
Top tension about 4 or 5, you should be able to pull the bottom thread through with slight resistence, if it is too tight slacken the screw on the bobbin case about a quarter of a turn at a time anti clockwise and test, if still no good email me and I will attach timing instructions, type my address as you say it not as you see it.
