dvd/vcr combo?

I can only watch a disc or a tape, but cannot record on either. Dubbing from a tape to a disc is ok. It's a Toshiba Hi-Fi vcr & DVD Video recorder model D-VR5SU.No No indication of any problems, was working fine.
