delco cdr 500 keeps ejecting cds?

My delco cdr 500 radio works fine, but when i put a cd in it spins for a few seconds then ejects it reading error cd in the display. I have tried many different cd's and an expensive lens cleaner but it ejects that too, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think i've found a new laser head. £20 inc vat at www.donberg.co.uk. debating whether to spend that much though on an old unit.
