How do I stop toilet from bubbling?

The toilet at our cottage "bubbles" after a flush> i've tried adjusting the screws on the ballcock, but can't get it to stop. The only way I've been able to get it to stop is to pull up the ball above the water for a few seconds, then let it down slowly. Can someone help?

Thanks.

If it is an old ballcock(copper ball on the end of a brass rod)hold the valve end of the rod firmly and bend the rod slightly downwards at the ball end so it shuts off sooner, try a little at a time,if that does not work you will have to replace the valve rubber, you can still buy new complete valves quite cheap.
