How do I program sales tax on a Sharp xe-a106?

I'm trying to help out a friend with a small business. She has a Sharp XE-a106 and sells clothing. In our state clothing up to a certain amount ($130 I think) is taxed at half the state sales tax (4%). Anything above is considered luxury and is taxed at the full rate (8%). I've stared at the tax programming part of the manual and can't even come close to understanding what we need to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Jesse -

There are two things you'll need to do. First, you'll need to program the two different tax rates. Refer to the section titled "Tax Rate Programming" in the manual. For example, program tax number 1 to be 8% and tax number 2 to be 4%. Second, you'll need to program one dept key to be taxed by tax number 1 and a second by tax number 2. Refer to the section titled "Department Status" in the manual. By specifying the "Choice of taxable status", you can set a department key to be taxable 1 (taxed by tax number 1) or taxable 2 (taxed by tax number 2). Then it's just a matter of ringing up the items under the correct dept key.

Hope this helps ...
