I have a HP pavilion ze4500 laptop that says that it does not recognize?

the modem. A friend has tried to reload or reboot the computer. Still doesn't recognize the modem. Can you tell me what to do to fix? It is to expensive to have a professional look at. I can't connect to internet. But the laptop itself works fine.

My Stanby Mode and I can not get into stanby mode. Also my computer does not recognize a S-Video cable when it is pluged in.

Most USB modems require the drivers installed before the modem is even connected, then once the drivers are there you can attach the modem and it should find the new hardware.

Have you tried a different USB port?

Could be the modem cable.

Could be that the version of the Operating System that you have (you don't say) just can't recognoise the modem. In which case use the drivers that were supplied with the modem (or if you've lost them download a set of drivers from the Modem manufacturer's web site) and follow the installation instructions.
