WI-FI won't work without mains connected?

When the laptop is connected to the mains ac adapter the wi-fi works, when i disconnect the mains charger the wi fi loses connection. i have a Toshiba Satellite L500-19x laptop, Thank you

could be a power saving option (daft i know) some laptops disable wireless to save you battery life. check the power saving options

WiFi adapters take quite a lot of current and so a bad battery can cause exactly the problem that you have.

A bad battery does not necessarily cause the whole machine to stop working.

If the machine's battery were defective then nothing would work - it may be that the battery voltage is a little low and this might be affecting the signal strength of the wireless device - can you make it work with just the battery if you move the machine closer to your router - If you find the wireless icon in the system tray you can see the signal strength reported.

your battery might be gone , as its not holding the charge, how old is the labtop?? try ebay for new battery for that model..
