My Maytag won't fill up with water?

When I try to start a load I don't get any water running into the machine. It is plugged in and the water is turned on. Why would it suddenly stop? What do I need to do to fix it?
Bill, June 2006
Clean the inlet strainers. Turn off the water, remove the hoses and rince out the strainers.

Ed Williams, October 2006
replace the water inlet valve. its jammed shut.
