the overflow pipe above the kitchen window is leaking hot water presumeably from the imersion heater, how can I fix it

This is Fred who has the problem and asked the question. Iv'e done what Mark suggested and replaced the ballcock in the tank in the loft and this has solved the problem.Many thanks to Hi-spec plumbing and heating and particularly to Mark for helping solve my problem.

so if it's the ballcock passing water then why is the water from overflow hot ?

more like you have a faulty stat and boiling the water in the immersion or you have cold mains passing to hot gravity.

is it an fortic cylinder ?
is it a constant flow or only when immersion on ?

i think that the overflow is comming from the water tank in the attic, and not from the imersion heater" sounds like the ballcock in the long black tank in the attic, needs to be ajusted or replaced, its letting in too much water , so its over flowing out the side of your home, check the ballcock in the tank,,
