If you have access to the programming manual and you are following the procedure to change the department name under 'Department Status Programming', the most likely cause of failure is that you are not meeting the prerequisite conditions. That is, you can only change department programming immediately after you have done Daily Financial Reset and Periodical Financial Reset reports. If you have set the program option “Department Report separately issued from Financial Report”, you must also do Daily Department Reset and Periodical Department Reset reports immediately before trying to change the department programming.
Too much of a hassle? If you have an S key, you can do a Status Clear and this will put you in the same condition as if you had run all of the necessary reports. If you don't have an S key, you have to run the reports and then do the programming.
