How do I use a microphone with my Aiwa CX-NA707?

I plugged a microphone into the mic 1 jack, but I can't get it to work. I have tried switching functions but nothing seems to work. When I press the mic button next to the volume knob, the display reads "MIC OFF". How do I turn it on?
